Fact #31

Globally droughts are in decline

Global Integrated Drought Monitoring and Prediction System (GIDMaPS) provides drought information based on multiple drought indicators. The system provides meteorological and agricultural drought information based on multiple satellite-, and model-based precipitation and soil moisture data sets. No increase is recognized over the last 30-plus years in extreme, severe and exceptional drought. A clear decline in moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions is observed.
