A Very Convenient Book for Rational Conversations on Climate Change
By Ron Barmby
Gregory Wrightstone’s new book A Very Convenient Warming: How modest warming and more CO2 are benefiting humanity, is much more than a rebuttal to the mainstream media’s portrayal of climate change. Wrightstone’s book allows us all to have rational and informed conversations on climate change policies instead of the emotional approach which politicians, institutions and especially the United Nations have taken.
Having already come of age is an entire generation that was indoctrinated with the emotion of fear that climate change is an existential threat to humans, with the guilt that humans have caused it and with the hopelessness that the only way out is a severely reduced quality of life for the common citizen. This was accomplished by suppressing the rational commentary of dissenting skeptics of a popular narrative and preempting a transparent evaluation of the event itself, global warming.
This book goes far beyond the late 20th century uptick in global warming. It enables the reader to rationally weigh the role of carbon dioxide in global warming, the long history of climate change and the effects of those climatic cycles on civilizations. His exhaustive sources are the world’s leading experts in their fields, who also expose how some data are misrepresented to encourage false conclusions; many increases in extreme weather trends simply vanish when stripped of statistical enhancers.
Wrightstone has done a marvelous job of condensing it all into 133 pages, using conversational language backed up by more than 90 clear illustrations. It is a very readable book not only for critical thinkers but also as a handy factual reference when mainstream media draws “expertise” in the multitude of scientific disciplines from someone who has glued themselves to the pavement.
A Very Convenient Warming has no emotional political propaganda attached. Its conclusion is distilled into its enormously understated title. For many of the 8 billion humans on the planet today, the recent warming and increased CO2 is more than just convenient; it is essential. And that is the conversation we need to have in order to leave a rational world to our grandchildren.
