Australian climate bill facing defeat in the Senate
Greens slam Labor climate bill as government digs on 43 per cent ‘mandate’
“Labor’s signature climate change bill to slash emissions by 43 per cent is facing defeat in the Senate after the Greens delivered a scathing assessment of the draft legislation. … But Climate Change minister Chris Bowen declared Labor will not budge on its ‘mandate’ to deliver a 43 per cent cut to emissions by 2030 against 2005 levels, and net zero emissions by 2050. … The war of words sets up a fight with the Greens and potentially the crossbench, who were briefed on the draft legislation on Thursday, over how deep and quickly carbon emissions need to be cut.”
