Yoshihiro Muronaka

M.S. Chemical Engineering

Mr. Yoshihiro Muronaka is a Japanese professional engineer specializing in energy systems, environmental technologies, and chemical engineering. He holds both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Osaka University and studied at MIT’s Center for Advanced Engineering Study.

With over 40 years of experience in the private and public sectors, Mr. Muronaka worked as a chemical engineer in R&D at Chiyoda Corporation, and later led process development and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives at Applied Materials Japan. He also held managerial roles at other major firms in the energy and environmental sectors.

From 2012, he worked with JCOAL (Japan Coal Energy Center), where he engaged in international field research and policy dialogues related to coal gasification, coal ash utilization, hydrogen energy, and carbon recycling technologies. He collaborated with government officials and corporate leaders across Asia, Europe, and the U.S., contributing to feasibility studies and strategic proposals in the energy transition domain.

Since 2016, he has led his own consulting firm, Muronaka PE Office (MPEO), contributing policy analysis and articles on energy and climate issues. He is also a translator and advisor for climate science media in Japan.

Mr. Muronaka is a signatory of CLINTEL’s World Climate Declaration and collaborated with Prof. Willie Soon on the Japanese translation of Climate: The Movie. He advocates for rational, science-based policies that recognize CO₂ as essential to life and human prosperity.
