Erik Bye

Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry

Dr. Erik Bye got his MSc in Physical Chemistry, Crystallography in 1972 and his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1976. His thesis is entitled, A Comparative Crystallographic Investigation of Morphine and Some Related Analgesics.

Erik was also a scientific assistant at the Institute of Chemistry from 1972 to 1978, and stayed as a postdoc at ETH Zürich in 1977, by professor Jack D. Dunitz at the Department for Organic Chemistry, Crystallography.

Dr. Bye worked as a senior scientist at the National Institute of Occupational Health of Norway, from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. He worked in the field of aerosol sciences, doing chemical exposure assessments, material characterizations, and quality assurance of chemical analysis.

Erik was a guest scientist at the Central Institute of Technology in Norway in 1989 and worked with chemometrics for ten years after that, within the field of complex silica analysis.

In 1994, Dr. Bye was considered by a scientific committee to be qualified as a professor in chemistry.

During his working period, he acted as an external examinator in chemistry at the master level at the University of Oslo and was a referee for several scientific journals. Dr. Bye was also a mentor for one PhD candidate in occupational chemistry.

Based on the qualifications in chemometrics, Erik was appointed as a teacher for half a year at the Technical High School of Oslo. In addition to that, he was responsible for a scientific program at an International Congress of Industrial Hygiene in Bergen in the year 2000.

Dr. Bye has published forty scientific articles, being the first author of thirty.

Since 2007, he has been an active writer in the field of climate change and participates in the climate debate.
