Production of Hydrogen Based Energy Carriers
At this year’s virtual session of Achema Pulse, Sascha Kleiber, a PHD student from the Institute for Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology at the University of Technology in Austria presented a technical session about his research on CO2 utilization for the production of hydrogen based energy carriers.
“We want to capture CO2 from large contributors such as iron, cement industries and then combine this with hydrogen formed by renewable energies and then convert it into magnesium oxide based catalysts with different active centers. The suitable product methane and methanol can then be further used for fuel cell powered cars, as a marine fuel, can be transformed into electricity and can be used as feedstock for further chemicals,” states Kleiber. The catalysts can also be recycled.
