Open Position: Communications Associate, CO2 Coalition

Job Brief We are seeking an individual with a background in communications or journalism, strong writing skills, enthusiasm and a positive attitude.  The successful candidate will have a solid record of academic achievement and a willingness to learn new skills.  We value drive, initiative and willingness to challenge conventional wisdom.  Punctuality, reliability and professionalism are essential. The Associate will work with contemporary and emerging social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, paid and earned search, and other modes.  The Associate will identify emerging modes and prepare presentations about the opportunities they represent.  Our target audience is political moderates and those undecided about the alarmist messages of impending climate catastrophes current in political discourse. Responsibilities

  • Develop effective social and conventional media tactics and disseminate media messages
  • Design marketing communications campaigns
  • Create content (e.g., press releases) for mass media or Coalition website
  • Increase outreach to Federal and local legislators
  • Promote placement of Coalition articles and op-eds in mass media and arrange speaking engagements for Coalition members
  • Liaise with media and handle requests for interviews, statements etc.
  • Foster relationships with advocates and key persons
  • Identify new target audiences
  • Carry out research under the direction of senior Coalition leaders
Requirements     
  • 0-4 years of experience
  • Alignment with and passion for the Coalition’s mission and work
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven, demonstrable experience with social media campaigns (these may be from school projects, private enterprise or public bodies)
  • Proven track record of successful teamwork and interaction with superiors
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
  • Experience in copywriting and editing
  • Solid skills in organization, planning and record-keeping
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; photo and video-editing software is an asset
  • Experience in web design and content production is a plus

The office dress code is business casual, but outside appointments require formal business attire.  The office is in a Class A building complex on the DC Metro line. Duties are during normal business hours with occasional but infrequent work on evenings and weekends. Note about COVID-19: The Communications Associate will eventually work from the CO2 Coalition’s Arlington office. However, given the COVID-19 pandemic, the Associate may work from home.
